Abstract

In experimental conditions (60 minutes of total ischemia-reperfusion in rats` eyes) was found mexidol ability (100 mg/ kg intraperitoneally) to weaken the destruction of membranes of retinal neurons, which showed stabilization of serum markers that reflect the integrity of the membranes of neurons of the retina - the activity of neuron-specific enolase and level protein S 100. These results indicate the existence of the study drug neuroprotective activity, which is the basis for the preservation of the structural and functional integrity of the retina in a model of pathology. These data substantiate the feasibility of using mexidol as a reference drug in preclinical evaluation neuroprotective activity of biologically active compounds.
